Connecticut First in the Nation to Pass GMO Labeling Bill

Tara Cook-Littman, an advocate who pushed for the bill celebrates her victory

A bill that would mandate labels on foods that contain genetically modified ingredients passed the House Monday, making Connecticut the first state in the nation to pass this type of legislation.

“The bill was re-amended by the Senate on Saturday and was approved today by the House. The trigger is now four states and the population size was reduced. The biggest amendment the Senate made, and by far the most important, was the removal of the exemption for farmers making less than $1.5 million dollars which really challenged the integrity of the bill. This is a compromise, but one that strengthens the integrity of the bill now. This will truly help other states move forward which will assist us with the trigger.” ~ GMO Free CT

Glyphosate and skyrocketing disease rates… connecting the dots.

Plant-killer Glyphosate (Roundup) was assumed to be harmless to humans because it interrupts the shikimate pathway in plants and kills them, and humans do not have this pathway.

What has now come to light is that our gut bacteria DO have the shikimate pathway, and by killing our good bacteria (we have 10 gut microbes for every human cell), a cascade of effects occurs which are devastating to health and are linked to autism, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic diarrhea, colitis and Crohn’s disease, obesity, cardiovascular disease, depression, cancer, cachexia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and ALS, and more.

In this video which is about one hour, GMO expert Jeffrey Smith talks to co-author of the new groundbreaking article just published in the journal Entropy, Stephanie Seneff, PhD, a Senior Research Scientist at MIT.

I consider this information to be of the utmost importance and it’s absolutely critical to understand. It shows how intimately our biology is connected to nature, how complex it is, and that by doing unnatural things to our food, we are on a path to more and more sickness, disease and suffering.

March Against Monsanto, May 25th, Everywhere!

march_against_monsanto5

On May 25, everyone who is concerned about GMOs is joining together for a worldwide March Against Monsanto.

Here’s the website where you can find the nearest event near to you:

Grow your own

It’s that time of year when we think about the garden a lot more than at other times of year, because there’s that limited window of opportunity to sow seeds.

Have you got plans for yours?

I’ve been watching a few videos of Vandana Shiva on YouTube recently and in one of the videos she said something that stuck in my mind… “To solve a big problem (the mess of the food industry, industrial agriculture and GMOs) we need to do small things. Only the small can multiply and diversify enough to solve the problem.”

And I would add: Only the small can CARE.

That small thing we need is more people re-connecting to the earth and growing food. Did you know that in India there are laws that prevent farms becoming too big? That means that farming is kept small, as it should be, in the hands of people and families, not corporations.

So what to grow?

growGROW WHAT YOU EAT!

Make a list of the fruits and vegetables you eat a lot of, and grow those in a natural way that mimics nature… the forest.  Continue reading

Quick Q and A on GMOs

ponderI was just asked a bunch of questions on GMOs by a student at Salt Lake Community College. Here’s the answers!

What is your name and field of business?

Michael Kinnaird, I’m a writer at http://habitguide.com/ (health).

How are you involved with the Genetically Modified Food issue? What inspired you to get involved?

I aim to raise awareness of GMOs in the food supply because most people don’t know what a GMO is. What motivated me to get involved was the horror I felt when I learned that DNA from one species was being fired from a gun into the DNA of another species—for example DNA from bacteria shot into corn DNA, or goat DNA modified to contain DNA from spiders so they produce spider web protein in their milk. When people become aware of GMOs they generally want to avoid them. They feel it’s not right on an instinctive and intuitive level as well as an intellectual level. Continue reading

An awesome idea from a fellow supporter!

I’ve been tossing and turning over prob 37 since before the election. It didn’t come as a surprise that it hadn’t passed but really bothered me all the same. I kept thinking and thinking about what we could do and I think I’ve got an idea but need aggressive help in this campaign.

If each one of us individually used our twitter account and told these companies why we will not purchase their products, as well as sending these companies emails, and mailing a letter of promise to them, we might stand a change to open their eyes to not using GMOs in their products. Big money defeated reason, ethics and consumer rights

On Tuesday, California voted on proposition 37, whether or not to label GMOs. Although not all the votes have been counted yet, and we won’t know the official result until December 7th-14th, the votes counted so far, show Prop 37 defeated 53% to 47%.

Click here to read about this proposition, and how big money defeated reason, ethics and consumer rights.

The main contributor to the No On 37 campaign was the omni-powerful Monsanto who pumped over $8 million into the $46 million coffers to defeat Prop 37. You can find out what kind of corporation is leading the fight to deny your right to know by watching the movie “The World According to Monsanto.”

Only 4 days to the BIG vote!

The vote in California to label GMOs — Prop 37 (Tuesday, 6th November), is going to make history. And over $1 million a day is being spent to try to make sure it doesn’t pass. What happens in California, affects all Americans. If the vote passes, it will send ripples all across America. The stakes are extremely high.

Where’s all this money coming from to stop you knowing your food is GMO? These people…

It doesn’t exactly give you the warm fuzzies does it? All that money is being spent on downright lies, lies and more lies. I just heard that the Justice Dept. is going to be investigating. Continue reading
