Unapproved, Genetically Engineered Wheat Found in Oregon Farmer’s Field

wheat“USDA has once again failed to protect the food supply from GE crop contamination,” said Andrew Kimbrell, executive director at Center for Food Safety. “This incident underscores why stronger regulation is long overdue. Congress needs to investigate how this occurred and the prevalence of contamination. Until then, USDA, at a minimum, should immediately place a moratorium on open-air field testing of genetically engineered crops.”

The power of corporations

Do you think that in a flawed system, corporate success favors a psychopathic profile?

THE CORPORATION is a Canadian documentary film written by Joel Bakan, and directed by Mark Achbar and Jennifer Abbott. The documentary examines the modern-day corporation, considering its legal status as a class of person and evaluating its behavior towards society and the world at large as a psychiatrist might evaluate an ordinary person. This is explored through specific examples. Bakan wrote the book, The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power, during the filming of the documentary.

Habitat loss

Horned-Lark-300x207

The loss of habitat is real in the corn belt, as are its potential effects on a host of grassland bird species, some hunted, some not.

A new study concludes that declines of such birds, from the ring-necked pheasant to the horned lark, are more the result of pesticide use than any other factor, including habitat decline.

What are the solutions to agriculture, health, and the environment?

What are the answers to the problems facing agriculture, health, bees, wildlife etc?

I think we need to localize not industrialize and we need to quit the “cides” and we need more farmers not less, and we need to value high-quality food, and we need to embrace an ecologically bio-diverse, higher perennial, lower grain food production model.

Money talks

Executives from companies like Monsanto go through a revolving door with the FDA and  EPA which are supposed to be regulating them. The result: they get exactly the regulation that’s most convenient to industry profits—so much so, that the industry is effectively left to regulate itself.

An awesome idea from a fellow supporter!

I’ve been tossing and turning over prob 37 since before the election. It didn’t come as a surprise that it hadn’t passed but really bothered me all the same. I kept thinking and thinking about what we could do and I think I’ve got an idea but need aggressive help in this campaign.

If each one of us individually used our twitter account and told these companies why we will not purchase their products, as well as sending these companies emails, and mailing a letter of promise to them, we might stand a change to open their eyes to not using GMOs in their products. How much deception can $35,000,000 buy?

How much deception can $35,000,000 buy? The latest poll on Proposition 37 (which affects ALL Americans, and even the whole world) shows that it’s not about what’s right, or a fair debate, but about how many votes can be bought. Before money was spent, 66% of Californians wanted labeling. Now look. And with the “No” budget 10 times the “Yes” budget, it’s going to take people power for justice to prevail.

Mom-Turned-Activist Launches National Movement to Boycott GMOs

by Katherine Paul

Diana Reeves was furious when her state legislators caved into threats by Monsanto to sue the state of Connecticut if it passed a GMO labeling law. Lawmakers effectively told Connecticut’s voters, who had clearly expressed overwhelming support for GMO labeling, “oh well.”

Unlike her gutless state legislators who rolled over, Reeves is determined to keep the fight for transparency in GMO ingredients alive — and she’s taking her fight national. She’s started a group called GMO Free USA which plans to pressure food manufacturers into revealing which of their products contain GMOs. The ultimate goal is to organize national boycotts of those companies that refuse to switch to non-GMO ingredients. Continue reading
